BASF expands its Basotect® range with the launch of Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced — the first dark-colored melamine resin foam on the market, designed for those seeking high-end acoustic solutions with contemporary aesthetics.
Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced combines the excellent acoustic performance and safety characteristics of the Basotect® family with a uniform dark color, enabling elegant, visually striking acoustic concepts aligned with modern interior design trends.
This new foam grade has been developed specifically for sound-absorbing applications in building and construction (acoustic panels, wall and ceiling coverings, suspended ceiling elements, ventilation ducts, air purifiers, etc.), helping manufacturers and designers achieve comfort, safety and design freedom with a lower environmental impact.
One of the key advantages of Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced is its easy installation: its dark tone makes dirt less visible and eliminates the need for additional coatings or dyeing when used with dark fabrics. This results in significant time and cost savings in project execution.
Furthermore, the foam maintains all the high-performance properties of traditional Basotect®: excellent sound absorption, low weight, high flexibility, strong fire resistance without additional flame retardants, stability across a wide temperature range, and effective thermal insulation.
Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced is also part of the EcoBalanced family, meaning it is produced using a mass-balance approach that increases the use of renewable raw materials, relies on 100% green electricity, and achieves a reduced product carbon footprint (PCF) compared to conventional grades.
For all these reasons, Basotect® Dark EcoBalanced represents a technical milestone: it enables architects, designers and manufacturers to create modern acoustic solutions that combine aesthetics, functionality and sustainability — setting a new standard for contemporary interiors. As noted by Tarek Abuzarour, Global Business Manager Basotect®, “developing a uniformly dark melamine foam is a significant technical achievement (…) made possible by BASF’s unique expertise in high-performance foams.”
